The PBD Academy offers English coursework tailored to the state's specifications, while receiving 21st century skills. In each course, student receive comprehensive grammatical instruction to improve written and verbal skills, as well as units that align with the district's set curriculum for literature units. The PBD Academy currently offers the following English courses:

12A- Analyzing Themes in Literature, Denotative vs. Connotative, Tactics Used in the Media, Etymology, Poetry, 7 Habits of Teens Essay A, Final Course Essay
12B- Autobigraphical Interpretation & Allegories in Literature, Interpretive Presentations, Summaries of Text, Idioms, 7 Habits of Teens Essay B
Creative Writing- A 10 unit (16 week) course. Students develop their creative skills by completing a variety of increasingly challenging creative tasks. For example: students create micro fiction, write children's stories, and work with dialogue.
Art History & Appreciation- Students complete a comprehensive five unit course covering the history from the prehistoric era to modern art forms of the 21st century.

Mrs. Myers has been a teacher at East High since 2007, and has been with the PBD Academy since its inception nearly six years ago. She works diligently to help students realize their goals of success. Mrs. Myers is a part of the student and staff of the month committee as well as the PBIS committee. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling, and singing.
She is a firm believer in the academy's motto: "There is no need to fail when success is offered every day." |
